A New Study Confirms L.A. Has Worst Traffic EVER…More Reason to Hire a Purveyors of Time Concierge!

Well, it’s official and it’s time to accept what we’ve known for so long…the traffic in Los Angeles is horrendous. No arguments here.

A new Top 100 list released by INRIX puts Los Angeles at the very top…as in the #1 Worst! That’s right, the number one most-congested metro. It’s even getting worse in Ventura County, according to the Star, which reflects on the open roads of the recession because really, rising unemployment is the best cure for freeway congestion.

Ever wonder when the absolute worst time to get on the road is around these parts? It’s now been determined to be 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, according to the various GPS, traffic and accident data collected for the report. The average commute in 2010 took us 71 percent longer than normal. Normal?!?  What’s normal?

Los Angeles Recod-High Temperature

Record-High Temperature Hit Downtown Los Angeles on Thursday, March 31, 2011 – Take That 1966

A record-high temperature for March 31st was set on Thursday in downtown Los Angeles with the thermometer spiking an incredibly red-hot 92 degrees, according to the Weather Service.  The former owner of this record-high temperature in Los Angeles, a year called 1966, maxed out at a wimpy 90 degrees.

Elsewhere in the Los Angeles region, a high temp record was broken at Santa Maria Airport when the meter read 88. The old record of 86 degrees has sat on that throne since 1931.

Great Food Trucks Los Angeles

LA’s Food Trucks are all the Rage

Back in the ‘80s and ‘90s there were simple lunch trucks (or roach-coaches as they were so fondly named) that roamed their assigned territories slinging hash and other greasy concoctions that one’s mind could conjure up.  Fast forward to 2011, and those bland boring trucks with their big white panel sides are now painted in wild colors and offer up gourmet fare like no one has seen before.

Nowadays, these trucks are specializing in everything from gourmet crepes to Korean Hibachi and everything in between.  If you are craving it, there is probably a truck that carries it.  Each truck seems to offer up specialty foods from around the world.

They circulate around the city going to movie set locations, studios, business parks, and random busy intersections throughout the City.  Last Wednesday alone, we saw nine various gourmet food trucks parked at a busy intersection in the San Fernando Valley.

We think part of the fun of eating from these trucks is the thrill of the hunt.  These people really know what they’re doing and have a great marketing ploy.  It is not like getting a hankering for one of your favorites and running to your local eatery to pick it up.  You have to find them on the internet, mainly via Twitter, and hunt them down.  If they are not in your particular area that day, your cravings begin to build. Luckily, many times they tend to have fixed locations where their loyal followers will meet up with them on a regular basis.  So you just have to keep your cravings in check until they are in your area.

One of Purveyors of Time’s favorite food truck happens to be CrepenAround.  They offer both savory and sweet crepes.  Our favorites are the Chicken Pesto and the Banana Nutella.  The flavors are tantalizing and do a little happy dance on your tongue.

We are certainly enjoying this new fad.  It’s a fun new phenomenon that we are hoping will stick around for many years to come. The FIRST Pasadena Restaurant Week Starts Sunday, March 27th

Between Sunday, March 27th and Friday, April 1st, Pasadena’s restaurant community is going to open its doors to visitors from far and wide throughout Southern California for the first Pasadena Restaurant Week. You can visit one of your favorite restaurants or take this opportunity to try something totally new in Pasadena!

The participating restaurants will be offering fixed-price dinner and/or lunch menu items for visitors. Dinners will consist of three-course meals while the lunches offered will have two courses.  Meals will be priced at either $15, $20 or $25 for lunch or $23, $34 or $45 for dinner, depending on the venue and menu offered.  Alcoholic beverages, gratuity and tax are not included in the price unless specified by the individual restaurants in advance.

This is a citywide event featuring the cuisine of many of Pasadena’s top dining establishments. Participating restaurants include some of Pasadena’s finest and most unique distinctive eateries including  1810 (eighteen ten), a/k/a An American Bistro, Bar Celona,  Bistro 45, Celestino Ristorante, Crepe Studio, Derek’s Bistro, El Cholo, El Portal, Elements Kitchen, Green Street Restaurant, Ix-Tapa, Japon Bistro, Maria’s Italian Kitchen, Noir Food and Wine, Pie ‘n Burger, Robin’s Woodfire BBQ and Grill, Roy’s, The Terrace at the Langham Huntingon Hotel and Spa, Trevo’s at the Hilton and Villa Sorriso. There are certainly many award winners among the Pasadena Restaurant Week participants. Noir Food and Wine was named best new restaurant in Los Angeles by Zagat in 2010. Pasadena’s Pie ‘n Burger was recognized by Gourmet magazine on its list of Top 10 Burgers in the US for 2010. 2011 LA Film Festival – Purveyors of Time

The 2011 LA Film + Music Weekend will be held in Beverly Hills between March 25th and March 27th, 2011. The Writers Guild Theater and Laemmle’s Music Hall will be dedicated to the 2011 LA Film + Music Weekend for the duration of the festival. They will be operating 4 screens and almost 1100 seats between these two venues.

Priority seating to any showing you like is included in the VIP festival passes which are available for $79, and those passes will guarantee access to the after parties/mixers on Friday & Saturday night. We Love That Our Beautiful City Called Los Angeles
Has a Marathon to Host

Los Angeles is customarily known for hosting fabulous events. However, the powers that be failed
to provide a nice environment for the runners of the 2011 Los Angeles Marathon. Los Angeles was
entrenched in its first torrential rain storm on this first day of spring. For the average person, this can
tend to put quite a damper on everyday life in this busy City. However, for the 25,000 (give or take)
individuals who decided to brave the elements, they decided that they would not let a few rain drops
get in the way of their dreams or goals. The rain didn’t appear to dampen the spirits of the revelers as
they celebrated the completion of the grueling run.

We here at Purveyors of Time are very proud of all of the runners. It takes true passion and a colossal
commitment to endeavor such a feat. (We have only been able to accomplish a half-marathon
ourselves.) We love that our beautiful City called Los Angeles has a marathon to host. We are not all
about just glamor and glitz. Sometimes we’re also about hard work and determination.

We would like to congratulate all of the runners and thank all of the volunteers for donating their
precious time. Next year we will make a greater attempt at providing better weather.

Concierge Assistants in Los Angeles with Purveyors of Time

We here at Purveyors of Time are constantly on the lookout for new and exciting things

– this includes tasty gastronomic delights.  So we received an inside tip from one of our concierge assistants, and he recommended that we try this burger joint called Umami Burger.

Apparently they have five locations, but we specifically tried the Studio City location.

When we heard the name, we had to question the meaning.  The Japanese word “umami” means: pleasant savory taste.  When we tasted the burgers, we knew exactly what they meant.

When we think of burgers, we generally tend to think of meat slinging greasy burger joints.  However, this little gem is quite a burger sight to behold.  With a line of people waiting out front to garner a seat inside the small trendy space, it’s no wonder Umami Burger is becoming the buzz of Los Angeles.

According to Alan Richman of GQ Magazine, it is the “Burger of the Year.”  We specifically enjoyed the Truffle Burger and Unami Burger (the restaurant’s namesake).  We also enjoyed their Malt Liquor Tempura Onion Rings and Smushed Potatoes.  This is definitely not a place to go if you are watching your waistline, but it is truly a wonderful splurge.

Can we recommend it?  ABSOLUTELY!!!!  It’s worth an extra half hour on any treadmill at any setting.

The 53rd Annual Grammy Awards to Air Live from Los Angeles’ Staples Center on February 13, 2011

53rd Grammy LogoOn Sunday, music will be in the air and all the celebrities will be out at the Staples Center for the 2011 Grammy Awards.   This year, the phenomenal awards ceremony will feature performances by a wide variety of artists.  Some include a rekindling of one of music’s greatest partnerships, Dr. Dre and10-time nominee Eminem, marking the hip-hop legend’s first live television performance in over a decade. A return to the spotlight spells good news for the release of Dre’s long-rumored, long-delayed album Detox, which is set to come out in spring.

Also set for a rare performance is Bob Dylan, who will play alongside rising folk-rock bands Mumford & Sons and the Avett Brothers—two acts whose music Dylan paved the way for, and will now help shine an even brighter spotlight on.  Another legend bridging the generational gap this year is Barbra Streisand.  She will sing one of her ’70s signature ballads during the show, and Mick Jagger will make his first-ever Grammy performance in a tribute to Solomon Burke.  The variety is all over the board with a line-up heavy with of-the-moment pop artists Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, and B.o.B., all of whom are nominees as well.  But, it’s a bit of a disappointment that we won’t be hearing from Jay-Z, Sade and a slew of other nominated artists who won’t be performing.  And one of the biggest shockers ever is that Glee’s stars won’t be belting out  “Don’t Stop Believing”.  Now that’s a surprise.

Bel Air Bar & Grill Bar AreaLots of exciting things are happening here at Purveyors of Time. Not only is new business on the horizon, but we have also found some incredibly talented individuals who we have added to our already stellar staff.

We hosted a “Welcome Luncheon” on Thursday, February 3rd, at the beautiful, charming and delicious Bel-Air Bar & Grill for the two new Personal Concierge Assistants and the one Brand Liaison we hired. They are all amazing individuals with a plethora of experience and talent. Their backgrounds vary but all chock-full of “personal assistant” and concierge experience.

They are incredibly well traveled, amazingly qualified to take on any task and are innovative and forward thinking. We are so proud to add these gifted professionals to our already remarkable team and we are sure our clients will feel the same!
